Mr. Saad Bashir was appointed Chief Information Officer for the City of Ottawa in July 2016. His mandate also includes: directing, monitoring, measuring and reporting on the performance of technology investments for the City. He joined the City of Ottawa in 2010 as Director of Economic Development and Innovation (EDI). At EDI, he oversaw the creation of multi-year strategies, established Invest Ottawa, led the Innovation Centre at Bayview Yards initiative, created Events Ottawa and set up the Innovation Pilot Program.
He has accumulated several years of experience in the private and public sectors. He has also held positions with organizations such as Citibank, Flextronics, Canadian Pacific, Nortel Networks and Calgary Economic Development. He is best known for his expertise in strategic
planning, business development, financial analysis, government relations and change management. He has a degree in Computer Engineering from Queen’s University. He is a member of the Board of Oxfam Canada, as well as 2013 recipient of the “Forty Under 40” award.
