B.R. Ravishankar (Ravi) is a Professional Engineer with over 30 years’
experience in the environmental and safety fields in Canada. Until
2017, Ravi was the Director of Safety and Regulatory Compliance at
the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories for their Historic Waste Programs,
where he led a team of specialists in the areas of health and safety,
radiation protection, compliance oversight, environmental monitoring,
wastewater treatment and quality assurance. Prior to that, Ravi was a
Director at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, Canada’s nuclear regulator, where he was responsible for the regulatory oversight of several major nuclear facilities in Canada, and was also the Director of the Environmental Risk Assessment Division.
Ravi has represented Canada on various committees at the International Atomic Energy Agency and the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency. Before joining the regulator, Ravi worked in increasing technical and leadership roles in the private sector and helped many industrial, commercial and residential clients on their environmental issues such as contaminated sites, indoor air quality, industrial air emissions and occupational health and safety. For the past decade, Ravi has also worked as a senior consultant with the UN Environment on environmental projects and programs around the world.
Ravi is now a full time independent consultant, with projects within Canada and around the world. He has recently been involved in projects in Iraq, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Haiti, Nepal, Sri Lanka, DR Congo and Sudan. His management consulting services include
management system for occupational health and safety, as a certified lead auditor for ISO 45001.
