Mr. Uday Singh Jaswal has been a police officer for 23 years, the first 21 of which were spent as a member of the Ottawa Police Service, where he rose to the rank of Superintendent. In August 2016, he joined the Durham Regional Police Service as Deputy Chief and led both the Policing Operations and Operational Support Commands. He recently returned to the Ottawa Police Service where he continues to serve as a Deputy Chief. Mr. Singh Jaswal is a proven and credible policing leader, who brings a unique combination of operational, investigative and community experience to his new role in Ottawa.
Based on his keen understanding of the communities we serve, he has led and contributed to several award-winning community policing initiatives that have assisted racialized, diverse and marginalized
residents and improved the safety, health and inclusivity of communities.
Mr. Singh Jaswal is a past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa and, most recently, he has served as a Board Member with Kinark Child and Family Services and the Family Mediation and Resource Centre in the Durham Region. He has several advanced degrees and certifications, including a Master of Public Administration Degree from Queen’s University and the Canadian Certification in Risk Management. He is also a sought-after speaker and a regular lecturer at the Canadian Police College and the National Police Academy of the Indian Police Service in Hyderabad, India.
